The Reverend James Cleveland was the catalyst for creating the modern style of gospel music. He brought traditional gospel songs into mix with bluesy vocals, jazz harmonics, funk, and R&B arrangements for church choirs. His music influence left a lasting contribution to American music in and outside the church.
