There will be lots of exciting music happening at our church in the month of May.

On Sunday, May 1, we will vote on our favorite hymn during both services. After this "primary" on May 1, we'll vote in the "run-off" election on May 8 for our favorite hymns to sing at the music service on May 22. If you have a favorite, be sure to attend and vote.

The choir will return on May 8 for Mother's Day with a new anthem by British composer Paul Ayers, and will be joined by a cellist on this beautiful piece.

On May 15, Abel Thompson will join us for a Sunday morning of original music. Abel was raised in this church, and will be here to help honor our graduating seniors.

The annual music Sunday will take place on May 22. The choir will be joined by the HeartVoice Trio; pianist Sue Brys; Loren Wilkinson and Chris O'Connor, with John Wilkinson; and guitarist Salvatore Culotta for a celebration of the church members who make music happen all year at UCBR.

On May 29, the Sunday before Memorial Day, the choir will sing a piece called Anthem from the musical Chess, which reminds us that countries are bigger than their borders, and that our land's only borders lie around our hearts.

Be sure to attend the New Orleans Gay Men's Chorus concert, which will be held at the church on Saturday, May 21, 7:30pm. The theme for their spring concert is Americana: Words and Music of Our Country. Tickets can be bought through their website (www.nogmc.com), or $20 at the door.

There are still two Sundays available for flower donations in May, as well as many open dates in the summer. For more information, or to reserve a date to donate flowers for Sunday services, sign up at the table in the fellowship hall after church services.
